Why choose squarespace?

Is Squarespace the best website option for your business?

When it comes to your website, do you worry about servers going down, out of date plugins, security patches, hosting problems and general disruption to your daily business, you will appreciate the benefits of Squarespace and we think can confidently say, it is best of the web builders.

Having created websites in WordPress for over 10 years, we made the switch to offer clients Squarespace website design solutions back in 2015 having tried and tested many popular systems. Wordpress was our benchmark but… and there are some big buts…

  • Squarespace is a code-less website building tool with integrated web hosting. You can build and manage professional websites visually, without code development.

  • Firstly, it has a beautiful, easy to use, content management system and although WordPress is free, our experience is that Squarespace costs clients less due to the hidden costs that you actually need to run a Wordpress website securely and effectively.

  • Squarespace include a wide selection of templates to choose from, purposed for a range of businesses. Hey I just said template? That’s bad right? Actually it’s not quite as simple as that.

It is certainly bad if you hope to create an engaging website by just filling in the gaps created by the template.

Thankfully, most of the Squarespace templates offer a good deal of flexibility, and we heavily customise them for strategically led output.

Most agencies use templates, to a greater or lesser degree via previously built assets as a starting framework on which to build.

The great thing about templates is that they have been thoroughly tested and make a reliable starting point for customisation (which is where we come in).

  • So building a stunning looking website in Squarespace is all perfectly possible. But every website needs to have an audience… right? Squarespace caught up and have made significant steps to encompass all the Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) features needed to implement a keyword strategy that targets relevant search terms and specific phrases, so your website appears in search engine results.

Great integrated marketing features

The Squarespace platform comes packed with an extensive list of powerful marketing tools that help you extend your marketing reach. Features include:

  • Create valuable content that speaks directly to your target audience. Promote or sell your products, services, offerings and boost your SEO.

  • These familiar graphic icons link visitors directly to your social media profiles & accounts.

  • Share your content on platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

  • Seamlessly promote your business on your website and in your social media channels - give your audience viewing choice for their platform viewing preference.

  • Collect email newsletter or mailing list sign ups.

  • Promote anything you want to shout about in a small bar at the top of your website.

  • Build out your email list and send out good looking emails to your audience to keep in touch and start to build engagement and loyalty.

  • A great way to add visual content for your products or services.

  • To be honest we haven’t explored this function but promotion functions are included for your podcasts.

  • Send cart abandonment emails to customers who didn’t go all the way through checkout, and pull information from product pages to help sell more through your email campaigns.

Additional benefits

Whilst the marketing features are impressive, there also some other considerations.

  • Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to make changes to your website without having to phone your developer to do them, incurring more expense. Squarespace is easy to use and the content management system has an elegance that (might) even make that process pleasurable - editing text, adding a blog post and uploading new pictures are all pretty simple tasks. If you don’t want to do that we can help keep your site current.

  • If you have the time, you can create your own website - you could potentially use the templates they have and edit the text. Squarespace offers drag and drop functionality and they have built a global business on the back of their own marketing promotions that sell this very idea.

The reality is that there is significant advantage in hiring a professional - your website is liable to be the corner stone of your online marketing and will be the first port of call for most of your clients. You will want a site that looks sufficiently different and unique in comparison to other Squarespace websites with the right balance of branding and good structure to your content.

Getting these aspects wrong will cost your business in lost revenue and can cause long term damage to your brand. We have a thorough knowledge of all the templates and their customisation options with a deep understanding of HTML and CSS (the code used to make customisations).

We create unique branding and graphics and we build the structure and make SEO decisions for your site.

  • Costs for third party plugins, themes, hosting arrangements, SSL certificates, and remembering your password for all these, can quickly become a chore; afterall this is a small business website, not a FTSE 100 company…well not yet!

With Squarespace, all of these items are inclusive. One account, one simple monthly or annual payment and no need to remember multiple accounts, logins and passwords.

  • If you want to create a small e-commerce website, Squarespace has e-commerce functionality built-in, so you can seamlessly add shopping pages to your website and sell unlimited products with no transaction fees. For more complex and larger sites where e-commerce is your core focus we build sites with Webflow. It gives design flexibility and is geared towards bigger plans for online sales.

  • Your website analytics tell you how customers are using your website, how they find you, where they come from, what they do on the site and when they get there. Having this data to hand is invaluable in helping you understand your customers, identify improvements to make on your website, and assess which of your marketing activities are really working for you. Squarespace comes with a simple built-in analytics package to give you basic insights to get started, and you can upgrade to Google Analytics at no cost when you’re ready for more detailed analysis.

  • Ok, strictly speaking there are additional charges for the Squarespace booking system, but this can prove a hugely valuable addition to your website as it did for Dann Barbers in Stroud (we completed their website just before the pandemic hit and the booking system has had a hugely beneficial effect between lock downs). Here are some of the features:

Calendar for each team member, employee, or location

    Calendar Syncing

Custom Payment Settings and Card Vaulting

    Automatic Reminder Emails

    SMS/Text Reminders

Packages, Gift Certificates, Memberships, or Subscriptions

    Multiple Time Zones for Staff/Locations

    Custom API & CSS

    HIPAA (BAA)

Simply put, Squarespace let’s small business owners and entrepreneurs like you focus on what matters most… growing your business.
